August 20-21, 1968: After repeat warnings, the Red Army and the troops of four other member countries of the Warsaw Pact (Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria and GDR) invaded Czechoslovakia. The Soviet Army progressively put an end to the popular demonstrations of the Prague Spring - a period of political liberalization that loosened restrictions of media, speech and travel.
